Is there a trial / sample available?
Yes, please click here for a 10 question / 15 minute sampler. However, as this is merely a quarter of the length of our real papers, please note that the feedback it provides is not as extensive and informative as the real thing.
What feedback will I receive?
You will receive a performance profile immediately after submitting your completed paper. The performance profile provides your raw mark in the paper and displays your relative weaknesses (i.e. the questions that you answered incorrectly in the paper submitted. For this it feedbacks in broad subject areas (curriculum modules), detailed subject areas and domain areas. The broad subject areas cross-match to the 18 modules of the new RCOG core curriculum, the detailed subject covers the precise subject area, helpful for focused revision, and the domain areas describe the type of question asked. Each MRCOGadvantage.com paper is carefully blueprinted to match the subject and domain make-up of actual RCOG examination papers.
You will also receive later, by email, a score interpretation guide, based on various sophisticated standard setting methods, which will compare your score with your peers also sitting that exact same paper, average RCOG pass marks and our difficulty ratings for each questions (Angoff standard setting method).
Can I view a sample performance profile?
For an example of a typical MRCOGadvantage.com full paper performance profile and score interpretation guide, see here.
Will my performance profile guide be released to anybody else?
No, this will never be done. Please take care though to keep your personal log-in ID and password secure (as you would for any private information). Basic statistics are used to populate some of our standard setting methods, but no personally identifying information is used, in line with UK data protection legislation.
Can I pause while doing an examination paper?
No, please ensure you set aside the time necessary to complete it.
Can I review my paper after I have completed it?
No, however, while you are completing the paper you can move backwards and forwards through it, change answers or leave them blank. This facility only stops when you are happy to finally submit the paper (or you run out of the allotted time for the examination – this is always displayed in a countdown at the top of your paper).
Are there hard copies / paper and pencil versions of these papers available?
No, due to the sophisticated feedback system, these papers are online only.
What is the format of the mock exams?
Our paper formats stick very closely to the official MRCOG examination paper formats; something competitors often do not.
An EMQ is composed of three parts:
• list of options
• lead-in statement or paragraph
• items (questions).
The list of options will comprise ten or more words, phrases or numbers. Occasionally, the option list will be shorter. In each examination, a single EMQ will consist of a list of options with one to four items. In this way, overemphasis of a single subject is avoided; to further encourage this, it is rare for our papers to have more than two items per option and very rare for them to have more than three items per option.
How much time is allotted to answer the questions?
In order to provide the best and most accurate test training, our software simulates precisely the relevant time limit of the official MRCOG examination; for MRCOG Part 2 this is 60 minutes for a 40 question exam – giving an average of 90 seconds to answer each questions.
Are answers and explanations provided to the questions?
Answers to all questions asked are provided. However, while extensive feedback, based on various forms of standard setting is provided, including performance profiles about your relative strengths and weaknesses in content and domain areas, worked examples of the questions are not provided. For these, see our books: EMQs for the MRCOG Part 2 and EMQs for the MRCOG Part 1 (forthcoming).
How computer literate do I have to be to take the exams?
Our papers are laid out cleanly and concisely, on just one page, and require just a few button selections. All standard internet and web conventions are adhered to. Try the trial to see how easy it is.
What are the computer system requirements?
• An internet connection (56k or faster recommended; broadband not necessary though) and a working email address (to receive the score interpretation guide)
• An internet browser – most will be fine – the site has been tested on Internet Explorer (PC/Windows), Safari (Mac) and Firefox (PC/Windows & Mac)
• Computer security set to accept cookies
Who can purchase the mock exams?
These mocks are designed for MRCOG candidates. Due to their high-quality we recommend them particularly for candidates in the later stages of their revision for the relevant examinations; earlier on they may be too challenging to be useful. However, there is no restriction on who can purchase and use them.
